our story
Founder Cartia first encountered matcha in 2016 in Byron Bay, but it wasn't until 2018 that it truly changed her life. After a serious concussion left her unable to consume caffeine for two years, matcha became the only thing her body could handle. Dealing with panic attacks, anxiety, and PTSD in the aftermath of her accident, she needed something that could give her energy without the jitters, without the crash.
Within a week of switching to matcha, she noticed something shift. Not just physically, but mentally. The kind of calm that doesn't dull you, it focuses you. She knew immediately that this was something worth sharing.
Melo was the result.
Respecting Tradition, Embracing the Future
Before launching Melo, Cartia travelled through Japan, visiting tea farms, learning from growers, and immersing herself in the centuries of craft behind a single cup of matcha.
We partner with certified tea farms in Kagoshima, Japan, a region revered for producing some of the world's finest green tea. Our ceremonial grade powder is stone ground from first harvest leaves — a first harvest blend chosen for its depth, natural sweetness, and that unmistakable vivid green that tells you the quality is real.
Every tin of Melo honours the generations of Japanese farmers who created this ritual for the world to carry forward.
